Cypress mulch help?
I am considering buying a bag of cypress mulch to bump up my humidity, and I was wondering if there is anything to watch out for when buying it? Also, where would you recommend that I buy it from?

I like Forest Floor mulch. I usually get it at the big box pet stores.
I once got some mulch from a hardware store but the shards were large and jagged. I also found pieces of plastic and even a few nails in it. I decided then I will gladly pay for the finer grade, cleaner, uniform, Forest Floor.

Petco is actually a bit cheaper than Amazon right now.

Cypress mulch help?
I have six large snakes a one juvie, so I can not afford pet store prices on Cypress. I just by Cypress in the big bags at Loews. It does have some large shards, but I have never found foreign objects.
The only downside is that it is very moist. It raises humidity too high in my plastic enclosures. For this reason I store it in a tub with many holes drilled through it for ventilation and quicker drying.

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Would it be ok to mix it with aspen? As I have heard that 100% mulch can be a bit overwhelming humidity wise.

You could.
Given a few days it will dry out and shouldn't give you any trouble. You can also pour it out in a extra tub for a couple days before using it if you want it dried a bit before you use it. I keep a good amount on hand and many times it is dry by the time I need to use it so I pour water in it and stir it up before using it.
In a few of my cages I use a mixture of the Forest Floor, Eco Earth, and Repti Bark. There is no reason you could not mix it with what ever substrate makes you happy.

How often do you have to rehydrate it, if at all?

That will depend on your snakes needs and your room. My Bloods get a good spray a couple times a week. Others stay pretty dry. Just depends on what cage its in and what that snake needs.
