Plastic hides also do ok in the dishwasher. If you're using wood hides you'll have to toss them, they're almost impossible to treat and disinfect. You don't have to get pricey pet store ones either, I've converted a lot of the plastic restaurant or frozen food containers into serviceable hides.

And what if you dont have a dishwasher? ^ ^' Could i just submerge everything in the bathtub with a little soap for an hour or so? ANd i've heard that freezing things generally kills mites, if i put her wooden hide in a freezer for a day or so, do you think that might kill them off?

Offering a few different opinions here:

I have read many things saying mites and their eggs can't necessarily be killed with dishwashers, as it depends on how hot your hot water setting is. I've also heard freezing doesn't always work. If you're going to soak them in anything, I would use a diluted bleach mixture for at least a day [EDIT: And be sure to completely rinse when done soaking]. Hides aren't terribly expensive and you want to effectively treat your snake so you may want to invest in just a few more that aren't super porous and can be easily cleaned. This can be something as simple as a glazed flowerpot.

PAM and Reptile Spray worked like a charm on my yearling that had a bad infestation. Just have to use as directed and as often as directed.

And be SURE you keep the mite-infested snake in quarantine while being treated, in a separate room from other snakes if you have any.

I would treat thoroughly and correctly right away, rather than try to "wing it" with what's cheap and easy but not necessarily effective, as in the long run you will be spending more trying to fix the problem if it continues or gets out of hand.

    Good luck.

Use whatever spray you choose from what's been suggested ( I swear by Pam) but yes soak everything including your animal. I would toss the wood hide.

Don't get overwhelmed, I know I freaked my first outbreak. Just stay on top of it take some of the advice on here and it's really not a big deal and fairly common. You'll have them all dead before you know it.

Pot + water + stove, take it up to 150*F (not even a boil) for a minute.

Nope. Tubs start to get soft about 180*F - I found out when using the heat gun to kill the mite eggs. The plastic for hides is much more durable.

For wood hides, I guess you could bake them in the oven.
