Help with UTH??

Hello, I have been using a heating lamp for my bp but humidity has been a problem so I switched to a UTH and have a few questions.

- Can the UTH be my only heat source?
- What temperature should I set on my thermostat (the UTH is under the warm hide)?
- Do I need more than 1 pad (I have a 40 gallon tank)?


Any other info on the UTH would help tons!

No hotter than 95 on the glass UNDER the substrate.

What is your room temperature?
Have you already covered most of the screen lid to help with humidity?

My room temp is about 75F most of the time. Will keeping the UTH around 92F heat the whole tank aswell?

1) Yes the UTH can be your only heat source depending on room temperature. BPs need at high 70s at minimum for ambient temps. If you have a cold room like mine, you may need to add additional heat as a UTH does nothing for ambient temps.
2) Depends on your tank. I have my accurite probe secured to the bottom of the tank on the hot side so I am able to tell the temp under the substrate. This is so if, your BP is like mine, and moves the substrate out of the way, you can monitor the temps so it does not get burned. Its trial and error. Right now I have mine set to 99 degrees in order to get a 92-93 degree hotspot.
3) You can use two on each side in order to create proper belly temps for the hot/cold side. I have a T-8 on the way but I actually have rigged my tank so that I would be able to use it to keep my BP healthy. I followed one of the stickies on the forum and adjusted it to make it work for me. I use a UTH and a 65 watt CHE to create the proper temps in my tank. I use cypress to keep the humidity up with moss in both hides to keep it humid for Monty. With layering the top of the screen with aluminum foil, my humidity stays around 50% and has never dropped below 48. (I usually mist once in the morning, once at night)

No. Under tank/belly heat is for a warm spot and really does nothing for ambient temperture.
75 isnt too bad to work with.
