if you do frogs, I've seen a few bio-active tanks and they are really cool and complex. You would just have to either add a divider or make a custom top where you could run a filter/outflow for the water, once the plants take over doing manual water changes and keeping proper water chemistry would be difficult. I bet you could find some great DIY ideas on a frog-specific forum.
