Herpstat 1 is the minimum you want to go with as that has all the safeties of the higher ones. As for running multiple heat tapes, some will say as long as the cages are identical, you can just piggy back off 1 cage with a power strip. I say bad idea personally because if the main heat source you are using as the guide, malfunctions, all your heat sources will be off. I have a Herpstat 1 and Herpstat 2. I use the 1 on my big girl and the 2 on BP and sunglow. I say buy a Herpstat 2. Then add to it as needed. They don't go out of style and Dion at Spyder Robotics says the firmware is updatable. Just have to send it in and pay the shipping and fees. My Herpstat one is old and doesn't have all the new stuff my Herpstat 2 has like basking light features but it still works fine and does what I need it to do for my RHP.
