    Can't figure this out

    Hey guys.

I'm a new BP owner. Have a 7 month old Pastel. Hes in a 10G tank with mesh top (95% covered to keep heat and humidity in). Temp in the cool are stay at a steady 82F and his hot spot is 90F. Humidity is usually 70%. I just got him about 5 days ago. He just had his first feed with me on Saturday and had no problems taking down a live pup.

    Here's my issue.

He is extremely active. During the day till about 4ish he sleeps however once 4pm roll around he is out and about. Moving all over the tank and attempting to get out. He has a water bowl that in low and big enough for him to chill in if he wants.

From what I read, generally there is a issue with the environment if he is that active. He is in his own room, with no noises. The only thing I don't have is a hide for the cool side of the tank. Would that solve the problem?

As a new owner i'm at the mercy of what I read on-line and there are a lot of different things being said about the fact that he's active. Any help would be awesome.

Actually that sounds like normal behavior. BP's are primarily nocturnal so late afternoon/early evening is when they wake up and start getting active to go hunting. If he were active all day then I'd worry.

Sounds normal to me as long as its in the evening. Sounds like he is out looking for food. Dottie was a pig until about 1000g. Then she went into a 5 month winter fast and now she is back to wanting to eat all the time. She too comes out at night and destroys the cage looking for food, come morning, she goes back into the routine of pathing from warm to cool hides. Not sure how big your BP is but a rat pup for a 7 month old sounds a bit small. Dottie is about 1.5 years old and she can pound medium rats. Maybe try the next size up and see if that quiets your guy down for a few days after lol.

    Funny you mention the food...

When I fed Memphis, he pretty well made that pup dissapear in probably 3 minutes.... GONE. No lump in his body, nothing!. Will go to the next size up this weekend.
