Champagne ringer
So I bought a champagne today and he has a ringer. Well the tip of his tail is white but it's a ringer. Who can explain this to me?

Any chance it's het for pied? I saw a champange 100% het for pied today that had several white ringers in the tail area.

Re: Champagne ringer
Well since I didn't pay much for him and I got him from a very reputable breeder who pointed it out but didn't say he was het I'm going to say no but I guess it's slightly possible.

It's hard to know when a recessive gene slips into the mix! Heehee. Only one way to find out!

Re: Champagne ringer
Well he's only 153g so we have to wait a bit to find out!

Re: Champagne ringer
We have a Champagne with a similar mark (and other marks) that we know is 100% Het Pied. I've also seen much bigger ringers on Champagnes that were not Het Pied. It can be a weird Champagne thing (I think).
Sorry the picture isn't great. Our power just went off :/ .

Re: Champagne ringer
Look up the body from the tail. Do you see any little white triangles on his sides? Ours has a few. I only got one in the picture. Sometimes they are really small. I don't think it would make it a guarantee or anything... just curious :-) . I have other Het Pieds like that as well, but the triangles aren't white.

Re: Champagne ringer
My champagne male has a pretty decent ringer as well and he is not het pied (at least as far as I know). The babies I hatched out from him, including a normal, also had ringers so I think it could be genetic.

Re: Champagne ringer
I've read that if the parents have ringers the babies will too.
