I found my new BP dead
So I have only had my ball python for a little less than a month, got him March 5th. He hasn't been eating for me but upon researching I wasn't too stressed about it as he wasn't losing weight, was acting fine, drinking, going to the bathroom, etc. He seemed a bit sluggish today but I didn't think anything of it. He was moving around bit, the only odd thing was when I was handling him, he didn't wrap around my hand/wrist like normal. When I came home from Easter dinner, he was half out of his hide (head inside) and when I lifted it up I could tell he passed away. The hot side of his enclosure was about 85 degrees and the humidity was in in check. No one was home while I was out so I know he wasn't handled without my knowledge. I'm just so sad that this happened and was hoping for any insight. Thanks.

Re: I found my new BP dead
I'm so sorry for you to find him like this, it's always sad if an beloved animal passes away...
Did you find anything odd on his skin or something like that? If not, the only thing I can think of is that there's been an infection going on you couldn't see
But it seems quite strange to me if he's been acting normally...

The only insight you can get is by getting a necropsy done, anything else is a guess.

No, nothing on his skin. The only thing I can think is maybe he was sick when I got him? He was never super active, but again, I know they are often in their hides. Even at the store, he would stay in his hide more often than not while his sister would be out. I'm just paranoid I did something wrong and missed it but nothing is jumping out at me.

This. Reptiles hide illnesses very well since appearing sick or weak is a death sentence in the wild. Hopefully if you have any other herps this one was quarantined well away from them, in case he had anything contagious.
If you plan to have one done (and I would) then put the body in the refrigerator, not the freezer.

That is so sad. Sorry for your loss.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.
