Finally ended the fast!!
Dottie has finally decided food is good again and ate a small F/T rat last night. She is pretty lazy though now. As a baby, she would stand up like a cobra ready to strike at anything that even resembled food. Now last night, she was out and about so I did the rat dance in front of her and she just looked at it. Then I hopped it around just out of reach of her and she again just looked at it. So I finally gave up and put it on top of 1 of her hides. Then I sat down to watch tv and I look over to see her sitting next to it checking it out. Than after about 5 mins of checking it out, she grabbed it by the head and swallowed it. She didn't even coil it or anything, just picked it up by the head and swallowed it. Talk about a lazy snake lol. So the fast is finally over after about 5 months. Well at least I hope *knock on wood*

Good to hear, congrats!
Elvira should be ending her fast soon. I don't usually offer till April. If she refuses, I wait till May until I offer again.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Reinz, how old is Elvira? I still have two that are on fast. One of my breeder males and a female both of which have not eaten since late December, and not lost that much weight. The male only 10g. I imagined he will eat again in a month or so. Big girl is recovering from RI, so not surprised there either. I know BP's are prone to fast over Winter, but I'm just trying to gage it. I'm expecting my gravid girls to eat again after they lay.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Re: Finally ended the fast!!
Hopefully mine eats soon. Thank heavens I have a piggy in the form of a boa that eats leftovers! The ball hasn't eaten since December 26th but still acts normal, etc and even seems interested in prowling, etc so I suspect one of these times, BAM, back to normal.

Yeah see my girl was out and cruising nightly for the past month or so so I thought she was hungry but when I did the rat dances and stuff, she wanted nothing to do it with them. She would look at them and turn around. She did the same this time too but when I just laid it on top of one of her hides at night, she cruised over and in 5 mins picked it up and ate it. She doesn't seem to be in the slamming mood for rats now. Its more like she has been reading lady etiquette books on eating lol.

Dave, Elvira is 14, never been bred, and has been like clockwork for several years now. She starts her fast in September/October and finishes in April/May. No noticeable weight loss seen.
She did something a little different this fast though. In July and August she loaded up on food getting ready for the fast. She had an insatiable appetite that just would not go away, and was very food/cage aggressive
for this normally mild mannered Sweetheart. So I fed her extra since she was going preemptive on me.
She has not shed in over 6 months but has been in deep blue for about 5 days now. I expect after she sheds she may be ready to eat within a week or two.
One other thing, back in January she went into a hardcore blue but never shed. She has done this a few time before though.
Now that I expect this every year I'm laid back about it and don't worry, especially since she loaded up on extra rats this time.
Elvira, 14 year old Normal

Ugh congrats. I'm considering renaming Nagini to Ghandi. He hasn't eaten properly since November. He's active and he's still healthy and he hasn't dropped weight so I'm not worried. But congrats.

Awwwww Reinz, why don't you breed her? That would be so nice. Lol.
Stay in peace and not pieces.

Well that is good news! Ours has not eaten more than three times in the last year. She has gone into shed twice during her latest fast. When she comes out of it I am hoping she is ready to go in the next day or two but I don't get real worried as this is what they do.
Anybody who keeps a royal should have a boa constrictor on standby. That way you're not throwing food away constantly LOL!!
