Seems to be a persistant opinion held by some out there that the head spear of a Tara MUST be black, and anything lighter means the animal is not pure Tarahumara. Well, I have Russo's book, with photos on pages 91 and 92, showing Tarahumara boas with head spears that are dark brown, not black. I recall other similar pics on his site too - brown spears.
That might be what they were referring to.
I am not an expert, and don't own this locality (wish), but it does look like a Tara to me.
