    Savu python!

I fell in love with savus, but there isn't too terribly much info out there.

Does anyone have them? What can you tell me about them? I've seen conflicting information about their temperament among other things.
I'd want one that turns that pretty black when it's older with little to no hint of the gold. I read females do this more often than males. Is there truth to this?
Does the blackness of the parents influence the offspring? ie will two solid black animals make babies that are more likely to turn that same black?
Lastly... where are the breeders?! I do NOT want to buy from backwater or underground despite them listing having savus. I don't need a sick one.

Also, I sure do love pics! ;P

    Thanks!

I know bcr229 keeps them, hopefully she'll chime in. I keep macklots pythons myself, Similar but larger.

My Macklots are very food crazy and will go nuts on feeding days. They were pretty snippy as babies but are a bit more mellow now with age (but you still have to watch them, especially if they smell food) I haven't bred them yet so I don't know what kind of babies they would produce.

Sorry, I don't know of anyone currently breeding Savu's
    Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus

I have 1.3 Savus. One female is five years old, the other two females are 2014's and the male is a 2013. They are very nippy as babies but settle down with handling - though one of the younger females reverts to being defensive if I haven't handled her in a few weeks other than feeding, cleaning, and changing water.

They are very active snakes both in and out of the enclosure. None of mine tend to find a comfortable spot on you and perch when being handled, like a Dum or even some BCI's do, they are constantly on the move.

They have voracious appetites and are easy to over-feed. I put the food response on a par with my retics or even stronger.

I got the three youngest ones from ReptMart in the fall of 2014 and recommend them as a seller. The other adult female I purchased privately from a non-breeder.

I do plan to breed them eventually. Bear in mind they mature slowly, males at four years and females at five to six years old, if you plan on working with them.

Most care sheets state they need moderate heat and humidity. For heat 75-85*F is fine but I've found mine have really bad sheds unless they constantly have humidity at 70% or higher. I've seen warnings from other keepers that they dehydrate very easily, so this is not a species I would recommend keeping in a tank if you want it to thrive. Mine are fine in tubs.

    Re: Savu python!

I love what I hear about their feeding responses. How entertaining!
My carpet is about the same in terms of activity when held. He's always got somewhere else he wants to be... he's not my "hang out" snake, but I love having him out to watch and be focused on.
Do you feed your savus weekly or bi-weekly?
I looked at reptmart last night and they're out of stock, but I did find someone who works for a pet shop that has them in and he's willing to sell me one or both. I'm getting pics before I decide though, pet stores put me off a bit so I may end up waiting... I just don't know any breeders OR keepers. Unfortunately this species doesn't really have a community so I don't know where to go for help and info when/if I need it... I feel I'll be mostly on my own.

And yes, I have tubs! I wouldn't keep a high humidity guy in a tank.

Thanks for all the info! I'm sure I'm missing responses to stuff though as I'm half asleep... whoops

I feed my youngest ones weekly though the male I'm going to push out to every ten days when he turns three years old this summer. The oldest female gets a large-ish small rat or a small-ish medium rat every two weeks.

Don't get too hung up on pictures if they're babies unless you're assessing their overall condition; due to the color change they'll look different in six months anyway.

Obviously they'll need to be QT'ed for at least three months if they're coming from a pet store, these guys can get hit with all of the diseases that affect other boids.

Yup, I have a QT ready. I was told they have 1.1 but it turns out it's 0.2! I'm highly considering a small savu project. I have a friend that works for a vet and would probably look them over for me, too (I'm paranoid and want everyone I get in to get looked at unless I personally know the person who had them before me). And yeah, I did want pictures to look them over in general because I have a tough time trusting pet stores.
They are less than a year old, being '15 babies.

    Here's what we got:
