Humidity setup
Ok, new to owning BP....
'Using digital hygrometer ----- How should the hygrometer probe be installed? Kind of under the substrate? Or one or two inches above the floor?
have 36x18x12 terrarium. Does it typically take a while for the temperature to get to a decent temperature? I have heat mat under the terrarium, as well as a 100w ceramic heat emitter about 3-4 inches above the screen top.
I did my first setup yesterday, turned everything on. The temperature on the hot side since then is sitting at 76-78F (originally 71-72 yesterday on setup) (using IR gun and thermometer both). Will it typically take this long to get up to the general area of the decent temp of 85F?

Re: Humidity setup
Hi and welcome. Firstly, don't use any heat mat until you get a thermostat to control it. Very important!!! Secondly, you will need a hygrometer that is digital and has a probe for the most accurate humidity monitoring. One that incorporates the temperature monitoring. It should only take a few minutes for the temp and humidity readings to start registering.

Re: Humidity setup
I have been wondering this same thing. I have a thermometer/hydrometer probe under the substrate on the hot spot with her rock cave placed over top. I am going to buy another one for the cool side (I have a temp gun for the time being) but was wondering for the cool side/humidity where is the best. most accurate place for me to place the 2nd probe?

Re: Humidity setup
Ok.. I do have thermometer on both cold and warm side. Thermometer probes are under substrate, just not sure on where the hygrometer (everything digital) probe should be (over or under substrate).
As far as the heat goes, the mat and 100w ceramic emitter have both been on since yesterday (10AM'ish) but just gone from about 72F to about 78-79F. That just seems strange to me that its taking SO long to only have gone up so little. I do have the zoomed thermostat, actually just got it about an hour or so ago.

Re: Humidity setup
Oh, I'm not sure if this would help to know but it's ReptiBark and I'd say it's about 2.5 inches thick.

Re: Humidity setup
Do you have a thermostat as well as thermometers?

Re: Humidity setup
2 digital thermometers, hot/cold. 1 digital hygrometer. Each with probes. Mat as well as 100W ceramic and both of those on since yesterday. Not much of a change in temperature for that amount of time of being on. And I believe I have the humidity issue resolved, now it's just the really slow temperature/low temperature change over the past 24hrs.

Re: Humidity setup
Can the depth of the substrate perhaps be an issue? The more I look at it there's a good 3 - 3.5 inches of substrate above the mat.
