    Clicking

So, I got my CH boy Lue and my Pastel Pied boy Fion on the 9th... and on the 22nd I was checking everyone over, and heard the dreaded 'click'. No bubbles, no heaving or wheezing or anything like that, just that rhythmic, steady, quiet clicking from Lue. So I checked Fion, and I had to hold him to my ear to hear it, but every so often there was a tiny little clicking sound from him as well. Upped the humidity a bit more, increased the heat a bit more, and got an appointment to see the vet - it was the night of the 22nd that I heard it, so I couldn't get hold of the vet until the 23rd. I left the boys strictly alone until their vet visit to make sure I didn't add any stress. They got me in for the 25th, and I tucked my boys into shipping bags and into my coat to transport them, to make sure they didn't get a chill. Lue was NOT happy - he's in heavy blue, poor boy.

Everyone at the vet office piled in to see the new boys. However... when I pulled them out of the bags at the vets office, there wasn't a single click to be heard! He checked them over, and said that I must have caught it fast enough that boosting heat and humidity kicked the 'bug'. Keep an eye on them, but there's no need to treat for RI unless they show symptoms again. Brought them home, put them away, and there hasn't been a click to be heard!

Better safe than sick snakes, though. I was really surprised that the vet visit only came to $45! I was expecting to pay quite a bit more than that. Hugely relieved that I appear to have dodged my first run-in with RI.

This is even more of a relief, since my female California Kingsnake died two weeks ago. She went from seeming to do better and put on a little weight finally to being dead when I got home. The original diagnosis of the problem proved to be accurate - she had a deformity in her digestive tract. RIP, little Ssa.

good job on nipping the issue in the bud and keeping those boys healthy. i've learned so much from the forum myself and my snakes have been pretty happy as a result of it.

i'm sorry to hear about your Kingsnake tho. it sounds like something u could not have fixed. just keep your head up high and your eyes on the prize.
    RIP Mamba

Thank you. I've loving these two new boys, and I swear that Pied would happily eat until he was too fat to slither! I feel horrible about not being able to help Ssa, but it really was something that I couldn't have done anything about. It's a bit of a relief to have that confirmed, and not have to wonder if it's something that I've been doing wrong. My male Kingsnake, Tsoss, is still growing steadily and looking gorgeous. Unfortunately, he never holds still long enough to take a picture!
