Anybody Ditch Their Watch Because of Cellphone?
I haven't worn a watch in ten years now.
The cell phone is always close at hand and always accurate. Setting alarms and stopwatch are much easier too.
I realize that wrist watches double as jewelry and some are status symbols for folks. And there is the obligation to wear a nice one if it was given as a gift.
I'm active and spend a lot of time in the shop. Watches just get the way and are at high risk of breakage also.
The Apple Watch has no appeal to me either, just a gadget.
I wonder if watch sales have declined over the years?

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

I haven't worn a watch for a while up to about a year ago.
Now I'm sporting a Fitbit Surge to remind me to get off my lazy butt and move.

Good points Reinz, I haven't tossed mine yet but have thought about it. My 19.99 Sharp watch has been working pretty good for the past 3 years. Lol. I do have a Invicta that cost 300.00 from a local pawn shop but I am leery about wearing it outside. So it's been sitting in the drawer for a year now.

The phone I carry is much smarter than I am, and contains more computing power than the space shuttle. However, 27 years in the military conditioned me to feel naked without a watch on my wrist.

I have many watches and really love them. My cell phone never replaced them but when I got the Samsung Gear S they have not been worn. Its basically a watch.....but its a phone too.
My favorite feature is I can hit snooze on my phone alarm while still in bed on my Gear. It does some pretty cool things and I cant believe the tech we have now.

Back in the 80's, Rolex was all the rage. At least in Dallas with oil and the building boon. Reagan was good for Dallas. But along with so much success came crime. I just had to have a Rolex, I was successful.
Funny thing, I rarely wore that watch. Too many close calls with crime. I got rid of it after a few years. It was a magnet to the wrong people.

I have a blue/red and black/red Submariners.
I don't wear the black one and the blue has been repaired twice. (auto wind doesn't seem to like a Harley) Go figure...
I haven't had it repaired again.
Both have been in the safe for at least a decade.

I still wear an analog watch. I hate the rare occasions when I end up going without it for a day or two, it drives me nuts. I wear my smartphone on my belt, but pulling it out is still a more obtrusive thing to do than just glancing at my wrist. I can glance at my wrist when I have my hands full, when I just need to take a surreptitious peek in company, while I'm riding my bike, etc. Pulling out my phone requires a free hand, and it's something I find rude in a lot of situations. I hate it when people constantly pull out their phones in the middle of conversations or other activities to check their notifications or glance at a text or whatever; pulling it out to check the time isn't much better. (OK, there are times when someone is expecting a message or notification that really is urgent and there is a good reason why they need to be checking it all the time, and I don't have a problem with that; it's the constant habitual interruptions for no reason that I hate)
I only have one watch at a time... but I'm fairly accomplished at doing bad things to them. My last one died when I somehow managed to hit my wrist against something just right so that pieces chipped off the crystal on the inside and jammed up the hands. I like an band out of plain stainless links (I find that this style of band is actually the most comfortable to sweat in, plus easy to clean up afterward, unlike fabric or leather or rubber like many "sport" watches... and the stretchy metal bands are awful. They get caught on your arm hairs and they have lots of interstices that you can't really clean out very easily) and a face about an inch in diameter with high contrast between the face and the hands so that it's easy to read in low light. No digital... for some reason I just don't like it. So, nice enough looking that I can still wear it when I have to get dressed up, but not anything in the category of jewelry or ostentation.

I agree Coluber, folks need to learn Phone Etiquette.
