You can't go wrong with a herpstat. Buy a quality thermostat now or spend even more money down the road replacing a cheap one. Just save your money, you won't regret getting a quality unit.

Another vote for Herpstat. I'm using a Herpstat 1 and 2 and I love em. Sure they are spendy but like what has already been said, don't skimp on the most important item for your snakes well being.

    Re: Need Recommendation for Thermostat

We have both Herpstats (4s) and Vivarium Electronics units (several models) They're all good, but I like the Herpstats just a bit better, and so got my son a Herpstst 2 for Christmas (for a future skink).

Ive also had hydrofarm and another equivalent (its purple instead of green) and both have the same inconstencies in temperatures. I would recommend Herpstat too. I have yet to receive mine (h1 and h2) but I cannot wait to test them out! Next thing would be better tehermometers but for now I have 2 per tub and a thermogun so I have to hope at least one is right!

Another herpstat person here. I pretty much own every brand of t-stat on the market except VE, due to buying a lot of used setups, and herpstat is my first choice by far. This isn't meant to knock any brand, as all the ones I have work fine, but I like the ease of use and safety features of the herpstats best. Also, your dealing with an investment in your snake's future here, as a good stat will last basically forever.
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

I've said it many times before, but I love my herpstat intro plus. Cost 109, has all the safety features of the big herpstats, is mountable, proportional, night drop, high low alarms, and it's super user friendly.

    Johnson A419

    Hello,

I personally run Herpstats myself, but if I were going to stick to your price-point from the OP, I would recommend the Johnson Controls A419. Depending on where it comes from, you may have to do some VERY basic wiring, but it's a high quality, UL listed piece that should get the job done.

Im new getting back into the hobby, I'm basically learning all over again. I just bought my herpstat 1 a couple weeks ago and it's made temps and setup super easy.

I bought a $40 one on Amazon... it was "okay"... but I never felt comfortable unless I was checking it three or four times a day. I ended up just breaking down and buying a Herpstat II (figured if I grow, it can grow with me for a while). Best purchase I've made in the snake hobby thus far, by far.

Yea, it's hard to lay that much money down, but with one or a few snakes, you're ultimately buying something to protect your $1000.00+ investment. Do you want to trust that to a cheap product?

    Herpstat gets my vote.

Sorry for the super late response, but I ended up going with the Vivarium Electronics VE-100. Works great so far!
