humidity reader help
So I bought 2 acurite thermometer/hygrometer today. One of them has a probe for the hotspot and the other has a remote signal device that I'm using for air temp and humidity. I've been using an All Living Things thermometer/hygrometer that has probes for each function. Well I decided to put the remote sensor in to compare my readings and my all living things says 65% and the acurite remote sensor says 42%. This is way off so I unboxed the other acurite with probe and placed the unit inside to compare to the remote acurite and both read 42%. Should I assume the All living things isn't working properly? Its hard to believe that 2 acurite devices are reading wrong. On the plus side the all living things hot spot probe temp is within 1.5 degrees of the acurite probe. One more thing I think I should add is that I put the whole device that reads the remote sensor in the cage bc it shows the humidity for where the device is as well for as remote humidity and the device unit humidity reads 54% but its sitting directly on substrate while the sensor is mounted to wall about 5 inches from floor and the other unit I set on top of the sensor. The sensor is same height as the all living things probe. Should I move them closer to floor?

Go with the Acurite readings. I've been using them forever and have salt tested a bunch of them. I've never found one to be faulty.

How do I salt test? Probably no need to since 2 gave me the same readings and the third gave me a 5% higher reading but that one was closer to the floor so that's expected. But still would like to test them.

I've had this happen also....maybe try a fresh battery for starters. For some reason my Acurite and my gauge was off about the same as you. 64% 42%. I put in a fresh battery and it seemed to be better, then I moved it farther away from my RHP. Both started reading the same. IDK ??? I don't think you can calibrate one of these Acurite's after you do a salt test. I want to find a Hygrometer that can be calibrated. I'm thinking maybe one used for cigar boxes ???

They are brand new batteries. But I found out from watching it for a little while that the all living things is extremely sensitive. Eventually when the mist settles they read withing 3% of each other. If you spray a little near the all living things it jumps up to 100% then settles after 20 mins but with the acurite I get a solid reading after 2 minutes so I'm just removing the alt humidity probe. Since the temperature probes of the 2 devices are withing 1.5 degrees I think I'm going to use one for directly on my Kane heat mat and one on top of the substrate so I can get both readings. Just waiting for my v400 and mistking from lllreptile and then I can set everything up. Little did I know though is that lllreptile doesn't ship the vision cages from there warehouse. It comes directly from vision. According to vision website it takes 2-4 weeks ugh.
