    2013 Female Tail Slamming

I will leave it up to those with more experience than I to rate if I have made a mistake since this is my first year breeding. I started pairing on Thanksgiving day and have been quite lucky. I have five big girls all over 2k that have had multiple good locks. So far it looks to my inexperienced eye that at least three of them are going to produce this year. I had another 2013 female that did not make weight as of Thanksgiving. She was sitting at around 950 and I had fully intended to wait another year to pair her. She just hit 1200 last week. She has been an interesting female ever since I got her. She is built more like a male in body type. Short, compact and solid. Not a lot of "junk int the trunk". At any rate last night I was in another room and I hear, thud, thud, thud over and over again. It didn't strike me as odd up until I remembered I didn't have anyone paired up. I go into the snake room, turn on the lights and there is my little, "not ready", girl tail slamming all over her tub. I have seen this behavior plenty of times when a male is present but never without one. Long story short I grabbed a good match for her and tossed him in. They were locked in under 30 seconds and still locked when I left for work this morning. Mistake or no?

I wouldn't take the health risks to her personally but what's done is done so nothing to do now besides watch and wait for her to ovulate. For some reason my mind went to the old Springer shows with those obnoxious 13 year olds going "yeah I have sex and I like it what what?". Let's hope this season doesn't turn into her version of scared straight!

    Re: 2013 Female Tail Slamming

Ideally you would want to wait for her to hit the 1500gm safe weight cutoff but she is a 2013 female. So the age is a plus, especially if she was a early 2013 girl. They should have gone through their third winter prior for best results. Just be sure to feed her well as she moves forward. Good luck.
Stay in peace and not pieces.
