    Talking New Here!

    Hi there!

I've been lurking around this forum for a while gathering info on how to set up a proper enclosure (display) and deciding on which morph to pick. Well, he is finally here! He's a beautiful 2015 vanilla cream from Gulf Coast Reptiles. They were amazing to work with, great with communication and endlessly patient. The photo does not do him justice, his pattern is absolutely lovely especially from the top/back. Also very passive and not at all aggressive so far. Balled up and is starting to peek out and look around the enclosure. At first I was a little concerned because I thought I saw something on his eyes, but upon closer inspection it's not anything on the eyeball, they just look slightly gilded/gold in color. He's absolutely adorable and beautiful and I love him already!
I will post more pics and full photos of his enclosure later. Right now the ambient temp still isn't where it should be, so I think I'll head out and get him a heat lamp and a dimmer. I thought initially that the UTH would be fine by itself, but now I'm thinking no. Humidity and heat temps are good, sitting at 55% humidity and toggling between 96 and 97 degrees Fahrenheit on the warm side (zoo med UTH regulated by Herpstat Intro). He's in a 24x18x12 Exo Terra enclosure which is the same distributed footprint as a 20g long. The top is covered by foil to keep things where they are.

So thrilled with him and can't wait to become a part of your community! Will post more pics after I get the temps all straightened out.

Welcome! What a great new family member!

As you are already aware, make sure you get that hot spot temp under control sooner than later. 95 is the hottest you ever want to see, with 90 being a much better target. The Herpstat Intro shouldn't have any issues doing so for you.

I hope you both enjoy your stay here.

Ah thank you so much for letting me know! I was shooting for getting it at 96 because that's what I thought I had read. I will dial it back right now, always happy to get corrections on info I may have wrong.

Welcome to the forum, and that's a gorgeous snake you've got there.

Instead of a heat lamp, I would recommend a CHE (Ceramic Heat Emitter) bulb. You can get a Flukers light fixture with a dimmer already on it and I'd recommend a 100w CHE bulb. That will be plenty of power and with the dimmer you can dial it back to get your desired temps. It will shoot your humidity down a bit, but just add a second water bowl, or mist daily to resolve that.

I'm going to disagree with this one LTG. I think an RHP is the ideal heat source but if it's not an option I like the red heat bulbs on a dimmer over CHE's. I found it much easier to control the temps with the bulb vs. the CHE and the red bulb is great for night viewing. The light doesn't bother my snakes at all and I leave mine on 24/7.
