    Price on Axanthic Pied?

Out of all the morphs I've seen, this has to be my ultimate favorite. I'm wondering what they usually sell for considering they're probably extremely rare and also what the difference is between the normal one and the VPI version. Thank you.

VPI refers to a specific line of Axanthic ball python morph. VPI and TSK are a couple of the common lines of Axanthic BPs. It's a recessive gene, so the animal in your picture would be a double recessive, and is quite a project to produce. Prices of double recessive BPs are reflective of the time it takes to produce one.

There are several online classified sites that sell BP morphs. They would be your best source for current pricing.

What exactly do you mean by "specific line"?

The lines are from the original breeders who have proven specific mutations to be genetic, in the case of Axanthic you have the Barker with their VPI line and the Sutherland with the TSK line, while in other mutations (pastel for example) lines are generally compatible, in the case of axanthic they are not, Mark Mandic also has his own line.

Okay. So basically they're only in specific snakes, and they'd be a total pain in the butt to breed. XD I figured as much. What are a few of the cheaper/easier ones to obtain?

The cheapest way to go about this is to buy a pair of Double Het Axanthic Pied which would yield 1/16 chance (per egg) to produce a visual Axanthic Pied.

Of course buying a Pied and an Axanthic would even be cheaper, this would allow you to make your own double het however you are looking at adding another 3 years to your project.

Just Google Pieds or ball python morphs and go to any breeders site. You can pretty easily see which morphs are going for what price. If you can get to an expo in person, those tend to be cheaper, both by cost of the animal, and there are no shipping charges.

Those are some beautiful snakes though... but they are rare, and the price tag proves it when you do find one. I know for me, when I want something specific, I can try to make due with something else, but in the end, I'm either not happy or still circle back and find a way to get what I originally wanted, usually after spending more money than I had if I just got what I wanted the first time around. LOL.

Before you invest in a pied axanthic project I'd really suggest hitting some shows and trying to see the adults in person. I loved axanthic but was pretty underwhelmed after I saw a few adults compared to the bright whites-greys you see on juveniles online. Maybe i just saw the wrong lines. They're still good looking snakes but Imo they fade out too much to be worth the price tag. Pied anything is still awesome but for the years to get where you want with the recessives I'd rather go with something with a more noticeably different pattern.

Haha. I've never heard of a reptile show anywhere near my town. Where do they hold them? I don't own a car so I can't travel without help.
