    1st Time Snake Owner

I got my first snake, he is a baby ghost python. I am concerned about treating him right and making sure he is healthy so I have a few questions. I am using a plastic box(a fairy big one) with holes on top. I got proper bedding laid out with 2 hide spots, one on each side. I am using an UTH to heat the warm side, and I have a fairy small water bowl in the middle. I have the plastic box in my closet in my room. I live in Arizona and I leave my apartment on room temperature during the day (72-74) and I have been putting the heater on at night to 76. My concern is that the warm side is too hot and the cold side is too cold... I understand what the ideal temperatures should be. I know that for the warm side, the ideal degrees is 90. His warm side has a few inchs that are 90 but in some parts it reach up to 100. I guess question #1 would be, is that okay? Will it balance out to be good for him? He seems to like the warm side. Now for the cold side i can't seem to get it warm enough, it's too cold... It's about 70-75 degrees. I understand that it needs to be 78-80.. What I did today before I left for work, I put a bath towel on all the holes on the cold side. I have no idea if that is going to work or not, so i guess my question #2 is how can i make the cold side about 5 degrees warmer? Is putting a towel over the holes Like i did a proper solution? Should I wet the towel or take it off? etc and question #3 would be for humidity I understand that a wet towel over the holes can also help with add humidity is that correct? Is just a water bowl good enough or how can i ensure proper humidity? Thank you to whoever reads this all

A thermostat or rheostat is needed to stop your tub from reaching dangerous temperatures. You cannot have unregulated heat, 100 is too hot for your snake

The temp sensing probe from the Tstat would be placed between the UTH and the bottom of the tub. Your UTH would then plug into the Tstat, which will regulate the output at the temp you set.

Okay so I just ordered a heater/thermostat that will heat up my tub but also monitor it and ensure it doesn't get to hot, I'm going to keep my current heat pad on and add this in the middle of the tub so it regulates the warm side while also warming up the cold side... IS THIS A GOOD IDEA ?? I'm going to try it

If your cold temps aren't high enough you can use a second heat pad but would then need either a second thermostat or second outlet on your thermostat.
    I've only used herpstats http://www.spyderrobotics.com/index....=index&cPath=1
but Vivarium Electronics are also a highly recommended product http://www.vivariumelectronics.com/Products.html

They can be pricey but are more reliable and less likely to need to be replaced later on.
A thermostat with two plugs like a herpstat 2 could run both your hot and cool side temps

    Re: 1st Time Snake Owner

Thank you! Yeah I kinda figured that out right after i commented last, so I just bought another mini heater, and 2 thermostats.. So I'm going to have one heating pad on each side with a thermostat on each side to ensure the temp is where it needs to be.. simple enough, thank you!! and as far as humidity goes, the water bowl i have for him is really small maybe like 3 inchs x 3 inchs... Should I get him a bigger water bowl?

If you have space for one and need to boost humidity then yes a larger bowl would help but it is not necessary
