Is this an Eye Cap?
Hello. I was watching my Kayly and I noticed this weird dry looking spot by one of her eyes. Her shed was seemingly perfect but now I'm starting to worry. I downloaded Tapatalk to do this but it still says I'm not allowed to add attachments. I have a good picture, it just won't let me upload it.

An eye caps isn't by an eye, it's on an eye.

Re: Is this an Eye Cap?
I know that it is on the eye. When I said by, I meant on the side, sorry. Your post on photos does not work for me as I am using a Windows Phone and the camera button only takes me to my camera and doesn't give me any sort of gallery option.

Re: Is this an Eye Cap?
Hi again. I finally found out how to do pics. So this is the weird spot I was talking about.

Re: Is this an Eye Cap?
It looks like it could be. We're you able to inspect the last shed to see if the caps were there? Leave it alone and make sure all of your husbandry is correct before the next shed. If the humidity is right, the cap should come off. Again, if that is if it's a retained cap but let's see what some other people say.

Re: Is this an Eye Cap?
That's the only shed she's had with me so far because I've only owned her for about a month. I didn't notice it until a couple weeks after the shed. The husbandry is correct as far as I can tell. Temps stay at around 90° on the warm side and 80° on the cool. Humidity stays around 50% and I have damp paper towels in the hides especially during a shed so there's higher humidity somewhere for her.

Re: Is this an Eye Cap?
How are you measuring the temps and humidity and what kind of enclosure do you have? How was the rest of the shed? Was it in one piece or in pieces?

Re: Is this an Eye Cap?
I'm using AccuRite thermometer/hygrometers (one on each side). I have a 40 gallon glass terrarium with a sphagnum based substrate. I'm using a black night view heat bulb on one side and I keep my room light off so she has a natural daylight schedule. 75% of my lid is covered in foil to keep moisture in. Her shed with me was one big piece but she did it in one of her hides so it was all rolled up and I couldn't see if the eye caps had come with. As far as I could see at the time, there was nothing left on her eyes and the shed had been successful. The only issue we had was with a small flap of the old skin left under her chin, which was corrected with a soak a couple days later.

Re: Is this an Eye Cap?
If the shed came off all in one piece then the humidity was probably good. Humidity should be 70% during a shed cycle. One piece of advice is that if those thermometer/hygrometers are the stick on dial kind, they can be inaccurate. Getting a digital one with probes is a better option. If it doesn't gross you out, you can unroll a shed. Might want to use latex gloves if the snake pooped while it shed. It might not be an eye cap but I'm not sure what else it would be.
