Raising the ambient temps in a rack?
Hello all!
So ever since winter set in the ambient temps in my tubs have dropped to 76! Obviously that's a bit cold for my ball pythons, but their hot spot is still good (bouncing around 89-92).
Anyways, does any one know how to raise the temperature in my rack? The only thing I could think of was putting a heat mat on top of the rack, but that only boosted the top tub one degree, and had no effect on the other tubs. Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

What kind of rack? Any pics? There are a few ways to increase it a few degrees. Actually got mine to go up 4 degrees rather quickly. Does it have solid sides? A back?

Why is 76 a bit cold for YOUR BP?
Mine are at 75 and do just fine
But to answer your question raise the ambient temp of your room it will raise the temp on the cool side.

It's best to keep them at at least 88 degrees. I've noticed that a couple of my snakes have started developing respiratory issues (just the whistling) and everything else is fine (hot spot, humidity, etc.) so it has to be that the ambient temps are too cold.

RI are rarely due to one thing but are usually a combination of stress and husbandry issue.
I can tell you that at after keeping BP at 75 on the cool side during the winter for the last 10 years I never had any respiratory issue.
But again the solution is simple raise the ambient temp in your room.

Re: Raising the ambient temps in a rack?
Use a heavy moving blanket over the front of the rack. Wrap it around the side and it will raise the temp a few degrees. I had the same problem and didn't want by gas bill to go up unless it absolutely had too.

Last thing someone should want to do is restricted the airflow especially with animals that are already afflicted with RI.
