bitey/non bitey snake species

My baby ball is very calm and seems friendly. Can I assume this temperament will continue as the snake grows??

has not attempted to strike at me once and let's me do anything I want in her tank with no fuss.

She should be fine as she grows. Typically babies grow out of defensive/bitey behavior, not into it.

I just wish my two year old Savu pythons would hurry up and get past the bitey stage. My male is a year older than they are and he's chill, as is my adult female.

I've read some iffy things about Hognoses . Whist being one of the CUTEST looking snakes around , aren't they are known to bluff-bite , kinda pretend to - but don't usually bite ??

Trouble is with them is when they bite , they apparently go for it big-time ......and they are rear-fanged and , as such , are mildly venomous which can be an issue for sensitive people like myself .

In the 5 years I have had Hognoses(not long in the grand scheme of things) I have never once had either a baby or adult whether hatched here or purchased from someone else, even open its mouth in my direction. Yes they huff and puff some times. Usually more often as babies, and I have even had them closed mouth half way pretend to strike at me. But in general, again, only from my personal experience, they are the least likely to bite, in that I have never even once been bitten.

I have been bitten by burms, balls, corns and Kenyan sand boas though. From my experience Hognose babies act just like corn snake babies. Except they play dead which is a lot less scary than a corn snake in the strike position. Which is also not scary, lol.

And Hognose adults can have a good feeding response but so can most snakes which could lead to bites however Hognoses aren't the type to constrict their prey so they sniff and taste more before they attack and constrict like balls or corns or Kenyans.

I am biased, I love Hognoses, I love Reptiles, I have been bitten more by the stinking rats and soft furs than any reptile. I have been bitten by leopard geckos more than any reptile. I have been bitten by corn snakes more than any snake. I have never been bitten by a Hognose.

So it figures, she made a liar out of me tonight. Little snake, past the defensive stage, this is her showing off her "I'm a big snake" food response. Stupid me went to clean her enclosure after handling rabbits to feed the retics.

FWIW this girl has never had a rabbit in her life but they must smell really awesome to her. Fortunately one drop of white vinegar on her gum line convinced her to let go. At least she has tiny teeth!
