Drooling?

I have never had a BP drool before. I checked for an RI, but there is no popping noises, no wheezing, no bubbling, no head raising nothing. Being that I have had snakes with RIs, usually ones that I had just purchased drooling is the last sign of a severe RI. Popping a mucus smearing is the first, but there is none of that. But she is still eating, and I hold her at least every two days and have not noticed anything out of the ordinary with her or any of my other snakes. I checked her mouth and there is not bubbling or mucus. I will be watching her and we have set her up in our quarantine cage. I will make a vet appointment on Monday as everything is closed today but having some advice until then would be nice.

So what would cause drooling if not an RI? I am not saying it's not, but it just doesn't seem like a typical RI to me.

And I have another problem. This BP I have actually sold... well I received a deposit and the new owner is supposed to pick her up on Monday. I have no issue on telling her that the snake might be sick, but I really do not know how to tell her to the point of losing the sale. Is there anyone who can give me advice on what to say to this girl who is purchasing her?

Have you seen the drooling recur on different occasions? Meaning, rule out water regurgitation.

As far as the customer, just present the situation as you have here, straight forward and honest.

I have never seen this before and she hasn't done after this one time. I am treating it like a RI though. She is in quarantine and and everything was sanitized. I think I just may have heard a pop while moving her and adding an extra heat source but I am not too sure. I am watching her closely though.

I agree with Reinz. Your first responsibility is to the reptile to make sure he is healthy and not harboring a early RI or even a virus. Next , the customer absolutely needs to know that the animal is symptomatic with a potential RI. They have already committed to a payment plan and have a right to get out of the deal or not. But you have to be willing to inform the customer of the issue. Maybe they will want to purchase a different animal either way they need to know. Just be straightforward and you will keep the respect and trust of the customer. Good luck.

yep, u can only present it straight forward and honestly to the customer.

u advertised a healthy animal and that is the expectation from the customer. beyond that, u could tell the customer that u will take the BP to a vet and will nurse it back to health before she can pick it up. u cannot in good conscious transfer ownership of a sick animal to her.

in any of these cases, the customer may back out. it's unfortunate. u cannot do anything but good care for your BP and provide good customer service. if u plan on breeding and selling a lot of snakes, this will help u keep your good name - even if u lose this 1 sale.

So I told her and she was very understanding. Thank god. I transferred the deposit back to her and she said to keep her updated on the snake. She actually works at the vet I take any of my sick exotics to so she will actually get to see the ball python then and she is looking forward to it. I did not even know that and it was quite the relief. And kind of a coincidence.

I would never ever sell a sick snake to someone. My mojave I bought came with an RI. She was not demonstrating any signs when I bought her but three days later she was popping and mucus was everywhere and I was so mad so I would never do that to someone else.

Thanks guys or girls. But there still is no more drool present currently. We are leaving her alone so to not stress her out. If it is an RI I am very confident that I caught it early. I do have struggles raising the humidity in her enclosure. On Sunday I bought some moss for the rack that humidity problems and I wonder if upping the humidity my have caused the RI... though she may have had the RI even before that which means all my other snakes could be at risk. Crossing my fingers that it is not an RI and just a fluke.

Great! Hope it's just something minor or nothing at all. Always easier on you after you are up front with customers. 1 sale isn't worth your reputation.

Have a male that will drool when held on odd occasions seems to be if you got him out after a drink
