Hey guys, my girl just shed after a couple nervous days, had to help her with a soak after she had been working on the top of her head for a day. I had her in a tub for a soak and what I think is poop came out into the water so I immediately took her out of the water. Can anyone confirm this by looking at the pic. Getting the head started can be the longest part of the shed, especially with soft, loose subtrates.

In my one tank with a hard packed substrate I have some abrasive, but not sharp items to help them; such as some lava rock and wood. A plain rock works well.

I would not try to help them get started, especially if young. They need to learn how to shed on their own. Also regardless of being young or not, they need to learn to shed in their new home.

As far as the elimination in the water, poo looks likes poo. If there is hard white chalky matter, or hard yellow, or even a touch of green, those are the Urates. These guys don't drink enough water to pass the amounts of urates necessary in their urine, thus it usually comes out in solid form.

Bottom line, it's hard to leave them alone for a week while they are in the blue and then shed, but there are many more to come. Just let them do their thing.

Now when they are done and you see problems, then there are things to do to help.
