Ball Python rubbing nose after De-Mite treatment
So today I treated my ball python for mites using the Natural Chemistry Reptile Spray. We took out the cypress mulch and put paper towel and bleach soaked the hides and rinsed thoroughly and put them back in. Now the snake is rubbing her nose (looks more like her heat pits) on the side of her hide and the walls of her tank. I'm afraid I might've sprayed too much of the reptile spray or even worse sprayed some in her nose/heat pits. She also keeps "yawning". Should I be worried? She also seems to be moving a bit sluggish but I may be over-observing and/or it may just be her body temperatures dropped almost to around 60 for the 20 min she was in the critter carrier while I sprayed her. Thank you for any repsonses!

Not sure how that stuff works but aren't you NOT supposed to spray that directly on the snake??

No, it clearly says on the back you can apply it on the snake directly (just enough to where it doesn't run off in excess) or alternatively spray on a rag and rub it on the snake.

Well that's where I first found the mites and I don't see anything. They snake seems to have stopped from what I can tell (Even though she's pretty much staying in her hide, probably a bit ticked off for spraying her with that stuff). But I'll just keep an eye on her and see If anything noticeable happens. I'll probably treat her again in a week or so just to be safe if that is why she was itching. It just really seemed to me it was more her heat pit than her nose or chin. But what do I know, she's my first ball python. My crested geckos were a bit easier

Natural Chemistry Reptile Spray does not have insecticides. It is a solution of salts that works by dehydrating the mites so they die. While it is excellent for on-snake use, it loses its effectiveness once it dries. I've used it but in conjunction with PAM/NIX used as directed on the enclosure and hides.

Yes, I really want to get PAM but there's not a lot of reptile specialty stores around but I'm planning on getting some soon. And i let the snake sit in the solution for 20 minutes without rinsing (like the directions directed). I was just concerned I got some inside the nostril/heat pits and was causing discomfort...or something worse. She seems to be doing fine now, besides not eating which I expected since I sprayed her and put her in the enclosure with a different substrate; she's probably not in the best mood.

That's what I'm going to have to end up doing I think. Either way I'm going to get it soon. I wanna squash mites as soon as possible. Although at this point I don't know how the snake would have them unless they mites evaded the reptile spray somehow. Either way I'm for sure going to get the PAM. Rather be safe than sorry.
