I Hit a Deer Last Night.

I'm a corrections officer and work third shift, I was driving to work at 9:30pm. The road I was on was very country, woods on both sides, I see deer every night/morning going to and from work, so I know to pay attention and not speed. It jumped out right in front of me, and I didn't even have time to react. I whacked it hard, it spun in the air landed on the other side of the road, it crawled into the woods disappeared.

I'm okay, no injuries, but my poor car. That thing is my baby.

Ouch, Deers are a huge problem in GA, I had several close call over the last few years and my husband has run over 2 of them, in the country they will come out of nowhere at night and it's often to late to act.

    Glad you're ok.

I've tapped a few of them. One of the cars were totalled, others just dinged here and there. I'm in Western Pa, so probably not too far from you. lol... It sucks, but at least you're alright.

Yeah here in Northeast Ohio, deer are a nuisance. They are everywhere. I've gotten close so many times. But this is the first accident in my car, and I've been driving her since 2008!

My insurance will be sending out an appraiser within 24-72 hours, then its getting towed to the body shop as its been deemed un-drivable because its leaking from the front. I'm hoping to get a rental for the next few weeks as it's being fixed.

    Thanks for the support!

Re: I Hit a Deer Last Night.

That's crappy but it looks like the deer didn't do that much damage.

I go cruising in the canyons once in a while and had my share of deer mishaps.

    Glad you're alright.

At least it wasn't an elk or a moose! One of the worst accidents I ever came upon was a car v. elk. No one walked away.

Ouch. I clobbered one with a Suburban a few years back at 50 mph. I carry liability-only insurance on it since it's older and paid for. IIRC I fixed what needed to be fixed to make it driveable for about $800, and I'll live with the cosmetic damage.

Between me and my husband we've nailed seven over the years.

Wow! Sorry about the dilemma. Glad you are uninjured. Car is a machine that can be repaired but we know its still a setback. Be good to see you rolling the mustang again. Stay in peace and not pieces.

Re: I Hit a Deer Last Night.

Glad to hear you're alright. I know someone who didn't make it because they swerved, lost control, and hit a tree so it could be much worse than a damaged car.

When I lived in MI I hit a 10 pointer that weighed every bit of 300 pounds on the hoof. Deer are way bigger up north than here in Georgia. In Georgia most are the size of a small Lab or Shepherd. Anyways, I was driving a 93 Dodge Town & Country minivan (don't judge) and had the wife and kids in the car. The deer was running across a field from hunters who had just spooked it and it was going full bore. It jumped from one side of the road and would have cleared the road in a single bound but for my vehicle. I hit it midair. There was $8,500 damage done to the vehicle. However, I ate what was not too bruised from the impact and I'm looking at his head which hangs upon my wall as I'm typing this, so I win. When someone asks about it I always say I shot him with a 3.3 Litre.

oh man, u banged up a pretty red Mustang. sorry about the car, glad you're safe.

i had a friend from upstate New York and he said that everyone there at one point or another has hit a deer. it was kind of a right of passage for folks in the area.
