A complete guess, but I think the "ringer trait" might be a polygenetic trait like fader or whiteout and such. Just based off the seemly random nature of it. Never seen someone post data on it, we always seem to just say "it happens".
I hope his offspring have some sign of it. I love it. I guess weird things fascinate me
