Little guy scared me today. I had put in a small water bowl with some moss to try and increase the humidity (maybe about an inch and a half deep).
When I looked in his cage this morning, I couldn't find him anywhere. Not in the hide or in any cracks or crevices. I was worried at first that he escaped, but then I looked at that little moss bowl. Pulled the moss out and there he was at the bottom of the bowl, not moving. Had a moment of panic thinking my snake had drowned and I pulled him out of there. Then his little head moved and he looked up at me and flicked hit tongue out and I had a sigh of relief.
I guess it's normal for these snakes to go under the water (he was apparently using the moss as a hide of sorts), but it still freaked me out a bit. I am having trouble keeping humidity up, so I think I need to get a substrate in there like cypress mulch (currently just paper towels). I have seen him drinking however and now he has figured out where to soak.
There's no risk of him drowning in that little water bowl is there?
