    Obviously, a good practice is to check the latches (or what ever secures the top/door) when leaving the enclosure. However, I also think it its a good practice to check the latches before going into the enclosure. If the latches were secure before going in, the snake must still be in there.

    I have a hard time imagining a cat would properly replace the entry to any cage.
