We abandoned conventional bedding a few years back and went full on planted natural, fog n all. My tanks prettymuch maintain themselves except for pruning.
But;
Aspen sucks for humidity, but made for easy cleaning
Cypress is awsome for humidity, but walks a fine line with being too moist.
Eco earth is a good all arounder. A slight mix with proper moss and some cypress makes good bedding. Using it straight up, it may clog a vent. Stuffs very fine and molds when too moist.
Most of these folks use the humid hide or container method. Seems to work out ok for them.
I know im like the only natural guy here. But i hope the lil bit o memory scraping helped
