    feeding during breeding

As we all know, females usually go on a food strike before breeding. I like to call it "feeding for breeding" lol. Exactly how much should you feed them? smaller rats every other day? every 4 days? whenever there hungry? because I got a couple females that will eat every day right now going into breeding. When breeding comes up I usually feed them 2-4 days with a little bit smaller rats. Should I feed them whenever there hungry during this time? or no?

I feed them the same as I would even if they weren't breeding. I know some people do it differently so as long as you are not over feeding, (feeding every 2 days is a little much, even if the prey is smaller) you should be fine. I do not know if it effects breeding but most people I personally know keep them on a week schedule throughout the year.

    Re: feeding during breeding

LOL, I just went to feed some of my females and there was a female that I fed a MEDIUM rat to YESTERDAY. She is one of the sweatiest snakes I have, shes never tryed to bite. I wasn't going to feed her but I just opened her cage to see if she was pacing around looking for food and when i opened her tub she flue out at me and struck at me 3 times before I finally got a rat in front of her. So should I be feeding my adult females whenever there hungry (like every one or two days) or should I wate longer. And again its only for the breeding season, During summer I do every 6 or 7 days.

I do a little heavier than usual feeding routine during that time.

I feed small to medium depending on the size of the female every 5 to 7 days.

So females will take food every 5 days some will not, I not offer more than that, I want my female plump not overweight and sluggish.

I only offer every 5 days prior to pairings not any other time of the year.

I use prior to pairing because I breed year round so for me it's not really about season

I observe my females and those that are about to be paired are fed a little more than the usual.
