Inspired by planted terrariums, I ordered several items from New England Herpetoculture. (Excellent customer service, and the plants shipped in perfect condition.)
The current plan is to just grow the plants in pots for now; this room has a large North facing window, but the snake enclosures are on the far side of the room. I may add some supplemental lighting over the tanks later.
Both tanks ended up with a sort of Zen garden look by the time I was satisfied with them. Seems to work well for the snakes too. I'll be switching out pillow moss in shallow dishes for the "planting." Should boost the humidity.
While looking up info on moss, I ended up on a Bonsai site. (Turns out the bonsai growers like moss too.) The thing is, I was familiar with Bonsai, even looked at some books, and attended a showing/class while living in Sacramento. Pretty, but was never smitten. Hmmm..dunno...something changed. There are some AWSOME Bonsai sites! What a beautiful art form. I think glass tanks could look great in a room that also features numerous little "old" trees - guardian sentinels for the serpents. Can't put my finger on it; just seems like there would be an affinity between the two.
