Re: The day finally came
I don't think I've stopped smiling since I got him home. He was exploring his tank for about an hour around 2 am last night and I only happened to catch him when got up to get a drink. I ended up sitting in the dark watching him until he went back in his hide...nearly overslept and missed 8 am statistics class because of him!
I grew up on a farm in a house built in 1920 that only had a wood stove in the cellar and a fire place downstairs as heat, so reptiles were out of the question, I'd keep a garter or blacksnake over the summer and let them go in the fall, but I've always loved snakes. Then when I moved into my own place three years ago I started thinking about it again on and off. I was always nervous about the fire hazard of any heat-emitting device, so I put it off. Then last year a 3 pound ball python was found in an abandoned apartment and brought to our vet facility for treatment. I fostered her for about 3 weeks and fell in love, she was just too big as a starter snake. This past summer, another ball was found downtown in the road, he was only about 250 grams. I fostered him for nearly two months until he was healthy. After that one found a home, I decided that it was time to put my fears aside and go for it. I so glad I did.
Sorry about the long bio

There is nothing better than that feeling when you just sit and watch your new family member roaming around his cage flickering his or her tounge checking out every inch of their new environment, and that moment he picks his hide and stays in it for hours give you that feeling of his acceptance of their new "house" is like a warm feeling inside. I live in a area where "the only good snake is a dead snake" and all snakes seem to have thumbs and have taken lock picking classes for years because they all escape whenever the hell they want and havery nothing better to think about than murdering anything that lives. If only I could make these people feel the same things me and my fiance do about ours. a man can dream lol I'm glad your happy with your new addition!!

Sooo sorry about the multi-post. Apparently my phone thought the its was really important for me to reply several times. I couldn't figure out how to delete the duplicates, so an apology will have to do.

I got a Hypo female from 804 Reptiles. The only snakes that caught my eye from American Made Exotics were out of my price range.

That's cool. I like hypos. I gave myself a low budget so that I didn't go overboard 😉 buying there had been a young pied for less than $150 he would have been mine. Although I'm very happy with my little guy. He ate for me last night, took a ft adult mouse as soon as I left the room. I think it's a good sign, he'd only ever had live rats (pinkies and pups) per the breeder.

If that $150 pied had been a female I would have snatched her up before you got there . Don't think the price of pieds is going to drop that low anytime soon though lol. I've never been impressed with hypos, but I thought she was one of the nicest looking single gene snakes there, super blue. Congrats on him eating f/t right away! And a mouse when he was used to rats. Maybe he'll be a good eater.

I was so surprised that he ate, I was really only offering it as a 'why not' it's been 7 days since the breeder fed him. I hope it continues
