Cat managed to scratch my snake

Hey, I was handling my snake when my kitten managed to sneak up. He managed to scratch my snake. Snake is acting alright but I am concerned because the cat did puncture him. It is a little deep and has bled so I was wondering what you guys suggest that I do. Please get back ASAP as I am a little worried.

I would suggest cleaning the wound and replacing substrate with paper towels. Thoroughly flush with clean water and then dab with a diluted betadine solution. (1 part to 10 with water). Beyond that, you'll need a more experienced keeper to respond. If the bleeding doesn't stop, or just to be on the safe side, I would get in contact with your vet.

Treat it like any small wound. Apply pressure to stop the bleeding. After that apply poly sporn and leave it.

I had heard that using antibiotic ointments was a bad idea because it could lead to scales falling off?

I used a very small amount of neosporin without painkiller on a q tip about every five days for a few weeks and didn't have anything like that happen. I think the scales falling off is for burns?

Prolonged use of petroleum-based ointments can cause scales to slough off. I prefer Vetericyn for treating minor cuts, as it's a water-based gel so it won't damage the scales. It's also not goopy once it dries so stuff doesn't stick to it.

I've also used it for minor cuts and abrasions on myself and it does work. No stinging either.
