my Elphie is an active nocturnal snake. she likes to climb, burrow, explore and just hang out in the open after dusk. so i can't say she's active before feed, but if she's not out of her hide at night, she will poke her head out of a hide if she smells food.
two of my boys - Ozzy and Boq - are very active and i believe are hunting leading up to feed day. i can see them looking for prey in the day before and day of. as soon as they eat, they may explore for a bit more but end up back in their warm hide and i won't see them unless they're thermoregulating or the next feed day (or unless i pull them out to handle).
my other snakes are shy. even though they may be balled up in a hide before feed, they will eat immediately when offered and then go back to hiding.
