Hot side temps? What do you think?
I just setup my new UTH and have got his hide to around 90 degrees. Before the UTH i was using 2 110watt uv red lamps to heat the hot side to 90 keeping the cold side around 78-80. My question is this, now that hes got the UTH keeping his hide and the hot side floor hot, does it matter if the hot side air is a little lower, say 85 degrees instead of 90? I wanna use only one lamp instead of 2 now that hes got the UTH but im finding one lamp only getting it to 85 for the hot side. Is that ok since his hide is now 90 with the UTH? Or does the air also have to be 90?

Yep, it's fine to use one lamp as long as the UTH is 90

First off, what are you regulating the UTH with?
Second, the 88-95 is surface temperature NOT ambient.
Also what are you checking your temperatures with?

Re: Hot side temps? What do you think?
I'm regulating the UTH temp with a hydrofarm thermostat. And I know the 88-95 is surface temperature not ambient, my ambient is around 78-80, my question was if i have his hot side hide at 90,(which i know i do because i ran a thermometer in his hide) does it matter if the HOT SIDE air is lower, like 85 degrees for example, which is what i jave it at with one lamp. I know what the temps should be, hot side and ambient, ive done the research, my question is this, one last time, if his hot side (basking side) hide is 90 degrees (inside it), does it matter if the rest of basking area (eg. Outside and above the hot side hide) is a couple degrees cooler (eg. 85).and im not talking aboutnambient temps or cold side temps, i know thats cooler (around 80).

Hot side air (ambient) can be 80ish degrees.
