    Ready for rat pups?

I have a 80 something gram het pied female. The store I purchase fuzzies at only has tiny ones but I have small frozen rat pups. Do you think she is ready for them? Thanks

probably not. pups are generally in the 20-30 gram range which is too large for an 80 gram snake.

The general rule I've gone by is the one recommended to me by others here: feed your BP prey that is no larger than the thickest part of your snake.

I wound up transitioning Manasa to rat pups somewhere around 250g, and at 388g she is now on small rats. That said, every BP is different.

I would say no... Noodles is 220 grams and I've just moved her up to 28 gram rat pups. Do what you feel is right!

    Re: Ready for rat pups?

There are unweaned pups at 10-15 grams, but that may be pushing it. To play it safe, I go by the 10% of body weight rule. You're probably better off with rat fuzzies at this point.

    Re: Ready for rat pups?

Once my hatchlings have been able to eat small adult mice for a couple meals then I switch to rat fuzzies. That usually happens when they are a little over 100g

How much do the fuzzies weigh, and how much do the pups weigh?
It is okay to use pine bedding for snakes.
It is okay to feed live food to snakes.

How much do fuzzies normally weigh? Tomorrow is feeding day for them so I'll weigh tomorrow!

Can I feed 2 fuzzies if they're too small?
