Posted a week or so ago about my 1yr old male super pastel seeming to get rather picky on a change in rats I've been feeding. Tried a gourmet rodents small rat Saturday night with same basic results. One thing I did notice with this brand was while blow drying to heat it up was it smelt a bit stronger than others Ive tried. Not a "stink" but just a stronger rat smell. He ate it shortly after I put it in his enclosure and left but would not strike or even come out of his hide for it.
Well I got to thinking maybe this change isn't the rats at all but do to the fact he's moved into his new T8 cage. In his 10 gallon he hit rats like a freight train and coiled them for fairly long periods. The last time I feed him in his tank he struck the rat so hard I ended up with a chunk of skin and hair left in the feeding tongs. Now he seems to have gotten lazy and eats only when I leave the f/t rat in his enclosure. Temps are right on the money and humidity is good at about 65% but maybe he still needs more time to adjust to his new home or just that he at that age and size he's going to be a bit fussy. He's just shy of 700grms when I weighed him last after he pooped and isn't there a fabled weight size they tend to get picky for a while?
