Re: Het Pied markers fact or fake

I have seen the most heated debates on this subject. If it is a normal or pastel it will almost certainly have markers. However, some morphs the rules change. I have a het pied leopard for example and it has a strange belly pattern, not like the usual parallel lines. It is a wiggly single line of dark scales down the belly. Other morphs i am not experienced enough to say.

Often people selling a possible het pied with markers will tell you they are very important. Someone selling a possible het without markers will often tell you they are not reliable and to take your chance.

makers are real, the debast is how good are we to see them. leopard and lesser often have obvious makers, i saw a special with the same kind of makers too. But buying those double possible het. relies on 2 things: the honesty of the breeder and how lucky and good at picking the right animals you are. het. pied and het. ghost are sometimes easy to pick. het albino are for me without markers.

The best marker is trust in the breeder. If you don't trust the breeder selling hets regardless of non-existent or actual markers, you have no business buying from them.

They can have a normal looking belly and still be het pied. I used to have a pair of het pieds that did NOT have the markers, I did produce pieds with them so they were obviously hets. However the interesting thing was that many of their babies that were 66% het pieds DID have the markers even though the parents did not.

Also since what are called 'the markers' are heavy solid black lines down the sides of the belly, I doubt that they would be obvious in an albino, but it would be interesting to see if you could tell.

Re: Het Pied markers fact or fake

First I will say that hets should not be bought based on markers or lack there of but on the seller's reputation.

Now I can also tell you that I can and have successfully pick out hets out of clutches that were considered 50% or 66% hets.

Markers are more then the presence of train tracks which in some mutations tend to disappear anyway.

Some animals do not present themselves with the those train tracks yet they are hets.

Bottom line buy from a reputable breeder and if you produce PH once you get a trained eye you will be able to tell them apart.
