Question Mexican king or Okeetee corn??

So, I've had my BP girl for a little while now and she's totally got me hooked on snakes. I've been looking around for a new 40 or 50 gallon tank to upgrade her to recently, BUT, I can't just have her old 20 gal laying around the house with nothing in it, so I've been thinking about another snake. Ive done a fair amount of research and am pretty educated on the general care, but now I have to decide what I want: I've narrowed it down to two options. A Mexican black king, or an Okeetee corn snake. I've read that the corn snakes can be ok in a twenty gal their whole life, but the king might need an upgrade later on. What's your opinion on this? I wouldn't mind upgrading because it'll be a while till I would really have to. I just am in love with how jet black the king is, and would probrably prefer it if it was all about looks, but the Okeetee is still gorgeous, and would probrably be easier to find a baby for sale. I know kings can be a bit fiesty but I don't mind the challenge. What are your thoughts on this? Which snake would you recommend based on what I've told you? Also, does anyone have either snake for sale (baby preferred) or do you know where I can get one? I live in Denver Colorado. I go to a scales n tails for my feeder mice, and remember seeing an adult black king, but don't recall any babies of okeetees, guess I'll have to check in a few weeks. Thanks so much.

Mind you, I *love* corn snakes.... but yeah, the MBK all the way.

Re: Mexican king or Okeetee corn??

I love my kings. My MBK is sweet as pie but she is one hard hitter at feeding time. She's knocked tongs out of my hands before, but she's a dream to handle. She was a little flighty as a hatchling but settled down nicely after a month or two. I do believe most kings will outgrow a 20g but not by much. My kings are a tad over 4ft and they fit beautifully in 2x2x1's. There's also nothing like a freshly shed MBK, except maybe a jungle carpet python . Anyway, Oketees are really nice but I say MBK all the way too! I got my MBK from Reptiles by Mack and they were great. BHB is another good online supplier.

My female MBK is pushing five feet at three years old - she would have outgrown a 20 gallon tank at about 18 months old. She is also voracious but easily handled at all other times.

Just pick one, you'll end up getting the other one somewhere down the line.
