    Loooong time no poo

I know Bloods go a long time without pooping. My Red Bloods are a little over 2 years old. My male poops about every 6-7 months. My female hasn't pooped in 19 months!! She has never refused a meal and is growing like crazy. She is a real sweetheart with a great personality. If she ever refuses just one meal I'll take action to make sure she's not compacted. She looks a little "full" down there, but nothing to be alarmed about at all. So does she hold the record?

My big girl evidentially held it for a good awhile for her previous owner often. Then I got three youngsters who held it for a good while as well. I found that with boosting their humidity and keeping it up they became very regular. They still may not go as often as some of my others but they go much more frequently than they did. I personally do not believe it is good to let them hold it like that. That's just my opinion.

Give her a good long soak and then take her outside to roam, might do the trick. My sumatran went about a year and looked like he'd deflated when he finally went. My blood goes more frequently. What size feeders and how often are you giving them?

    Re: Loooong time no poo

I soaked her this morning and raised the humidity a bit. VPI keeps their Bloods around 65-70% humidity and they say they've never had an impacted Blood. Thats about what I have mine at. She's eats a large rat about every 2 weeks now but she was pretty small last time she pooped so her rat size has changed since then. I don't over feed them. Right now she has her head laying right where her food comes from just waiting, and she just ate 5 days ago. It's nice out, I may take her out for a stroll. I'd feel much better if she'd let go of that mess.

I hate it when they hold it. Once its out it looks like a baby elephant stopped by to visit.

    Re: Loooong time no poo

My Blood finally pooped after 21 months. But,I had to help her. Uric acid had hardened and clogged her up. She never refused food until the day before I unclogged her. I had tried swimming her in warm water. Taking her outside in the warm sun. Then I soaked her in warm water ( 87-90degrees) for 2 hours, then palpated her until I got some uric acid chucks to pass. From then on it was like squeezing out a sausage. I was amazed at how much Uric acid came out, but how little the poop was, considering how much she had eaten. She had eaten 65 times!!! She's all cleaned out now and ate 3 days later.
I feel bad that I let it go that long but she always ate and showed no signs of discomfort. I figured she'd let loose when she was ready..The day she refused food right after shedding, I knew it was time to act. All the talk about how long Bloods can go without pooping and VPI saying they've never had a constipated Blood, I just wasn't that concerned. Some of the Uric acid clanged when I threw it in a ceramic bowl. It had hardened and was blocking her from going.
From now on, I'll put my Bloods in water and make them swim if they haven't gone in 4 months or so. My male Blood goes every 8 months.
FYI. My Bloods are about 28-29 months old. So she was eating mice the last time she pooped and now she's eating large rats.
