    Keeping hides in place

Any good tips on how to keep lightweight plastic hides in the spot you want it? I use a dish washing tub flipped over with a hole cut in it and I have to move it back onto the warm spot everyday, I'd like it stay put. Maybe hot glue some bricks on top?

    Re: Keeping hides in place

You know, some snakes just like to rearrange the furniture. I have two, and I know there are a few others on BP.net that do as well. I think you're just going to have to let them do it, and put it back once in a while.

I put one on the hot spot on feeding day. Over the next few days some of my BP's will slowly "walk" that hide off of the warm side as they digest their meals and they don't want to be as warm.

    Wash, rinse, repeat...

I agree with the advice above. They know better than we do about what temperatures they prefer. Just because you have your hot spot at the perfect care guide 90°F doesn't mean that's what your snake is going to prefer. One of the reasons we recommend providing a temperature gradient is because snakes can't read care guides and will make themselves comfortable where they want to.

I actually find it amusing to open tubs of those who have hides and see where they've moved them to. I swear some of them move them daily just to say they've accomplished something.

    Re: Keeping hides in place

Here's something you could try, I used it to make a hide a little taller once and worked pretty good. Take a bowl of water and add in spangium moss so it's fully wet. Now take some out and squeeze water out of it which also at the same time compacts the moss. Pack it around the hide, it will dry pretty hard, if your snake breaks it a little loose just pack in more wet moss. When shedding time comes you can then mist the dry moss to help with humidity in shedding.

Even though my girls both have a warm side and cool side hide, my lesser bee will take her current hide with her to whatever side she moves to. They really are just gonna do what they want so don't get too fussy about things looking perfect. XD

The place YOU want it is irrelevant, the place where your snake wants it is what matter, if it moves it around there is a reason.

The thing is, if the hide gets moved off the heat pad, he will just lay in the warm spot out in the open. I very rarely find him in the hide when its been moved around.

    What's wrong with that?
