Ghost/Hypo desirability
Is there still a market for this gene? I see many breeders trying to dump them off cheap babies and adults alike as if they are moving all Hypo combos out of their collections. Hypo/Ghost is an awesome gene, it's one of the pioneers of the Ball Python world much like the Albino. I mean the Ghost gene has been around longer than some on this forum have been alive. Who can still remember when the Ghost/Hypo was out of their price range and had to save up just to get a het pair?

I think as a base on itself as a single gene, people are already into multi gene animals and don't want/need the base anymore.
I get mad every year when I see how much the costs have gone down.

Same, I'm now seeing even combos being moved out and prices plummeting.

Hypo makes everything better. No you won't get rich on them but they're an essential part of any complete collection.

I remember when they were out of price and while price have gone down like for everything else yes there is a market for hypo, it might be harder to move single gene hypos but combos Hypo Enchi, Hypo Black Pastel, Hypo Lesser etc are amazing combos that usually catch people attention at shows.

I think what I was trying to say is that they are under appreciated now. What bothered me is seeing people have fire sales in their collections to rid themselves of all Ghost/Hypo stuff. I get that there is a vast supply of Ghosts being produced, but the demand is constantly becoming lower. That is unless it has some more desirable gene such as Clown, Pied, etc. like you stated.

Don't worry about those people, they'll probably be breeding and selling african violets or miniature roses next year. There are a LOT of people who got into ball pythons only because of the money, they'll be gone eventually.

That's true, or Boas with the variety that is starting to emerge there.

The difference with boas is that they take longer to mature, so people with the get-rich-quick mentality don't want to wait that long for their critters to grow up. Plus they require more expensive caging, you don't keep seven foot or larger breeding females in a rack of 41-qt tubs.
Heck I also have 1.2 savu pythons I plan on breeding when they mature, but females aren't ready until they're 5-6 years old. I mentioned that to a friend who also keeps BP's and he was like... so how the heck do you make money if you have to wait that long for a female to grow up?

It is sad that it has turned into that. Then you get people who do not care for the animals, I have a hard time getting rid of babies that I hatch out, I get attached quick. With Boas, I was only referring to the boom in the morphs over the last few years.
