Day 56... Eggs not dimpling?
My eggs are on day 56 and they are not dimpling yet? Do eggs always dimple before hatching? Temperature was running at 86-87 Friday and Saturday so I know that hatching date has been prolonged a few days, but it has since been corrected slowly, not overly concerned at the moment just more curious, how long do lower temperatures generally prolong the hatch date? When should I become concerned about the babies safety( ie not pipping)?

Re: Day 56... Eggs not dimpling?
May the temps we've had. Our would dimple on day 54. We kept ours at 89. How long were they running at a lower temperature? If it was only for two days it shouldn't affect it that badly.

I don't think that two days is going to effect the clutch. I had a clutch between 86-88 the whole time and they started pipping on day 57 and were in the eggs another day or two, My eggs were dimpled though. I have a clutch right now that is going to be on day 55 on the 1st of Sep and they are not even slightly dimpling. I am going to cut them on day 57 just in case if they haven't pipped by then. I am used maternal incubation for both clutches though.

Re: Day 56... Eggs not dimpling?
I incubated a clutch of 9 eggs at 87.5 degrees and some were barely dimpled by the time they started pipping on day 61. Some still looked like they had just been laid. Dimpling to soon is a problem. Not dimpling usually isn't. Patience, Grasshopper.

I ended up cutting on day 55. All 5 are alive and well as far as can be seen. 1 of them appears to be a a super cinny so I'm still hoping there aren't any kinks, deformed jaw, or any other oddities with him/her...

Re: Day 56... Eggs not dimpling?
One baby came out of the egg today dragging some of the egg yolk so I put it in a deli cup with a moist paper towel. Sadly the other baby died in the egg. I will try to post pictures. Really bummed as this is my first clutch ever.

I guess almost 2 weeks wasn't too soon, they all came out perfect. 2 boys - sterling possible YB, and what appears to be a Pastel Super Cinny, and 3 ladys - Pastel poss YB, Pewter, and a sterling.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Do you have any more to lay this year?

No, not all eggs dimple. I've had plenty go full term without dimpling. Temps do have an effect on hatch dates but I'm not sure how much. I've had eggs hatch anywhere between 50 days and 70. The books all say that they hatch at 60 days but ball pythons don't read very well. MOST of mine will hatch around 60 days give or take but it's certainly not a hard and fast rule.
Sorry to hear about your lost eggs, for the one that did come out if it still has it's yolk the best thing to do is to set it up on very wet paper towels and allow it to absorb more yolk if it can. I would not remove the yolk sack but let it fall off naturally. Sounds like it may have been a bit premature. Did you cut the eggs?
