Hey Guys,
Im planing on getting a new snake. But i have been racking my mind as to which one i want. Theres so many that could make good pets. So i thoguht about seeing if you guys have any input. Im looking for soemthing that is fairly docile, and gets a nice size. Not anything too big. but bigger than a Ball. Also i love girth on a snake. So something that gets a bit thick too, I was thinking about a blood, but I heard that they can ither be really friendily or very nippy, is this true?. In any case i'd appreaciate you input.
Thanx

New Snake, Any Ideas?
Bloods are more prone in general to have that tendency than say ball pythons - i almost hate to have to qualify that so explicitly as there are exceptions to every "rule" and that's based only on my experience and though dialogue with others - seems also to apply more to the reds (brongersmai) than the borneo's or blacks. They are a rewarding species to work with but certainly one which you get out only what you are willing to put in in terms of your husbandry. Hell our black blood (curtus curtus) is the nicest snake in the house hands down. That being said they have more involved husbandry than balls with special attention needed in the humidity department - just sealing up the enclosure as best you can won't cut it either as stagnant air doesnt go over well with these at all.
It's a step up from a ball no mistake about it. Get out thee and actually get a few in your hands before you get one, and if at all possible avoid getting one you've not been able to interact with through trhe mail etc.

What about a Boa Constrictor Imperator... they get girthy but are still able to be handled.
Look, sometimes bad things happen, and there is nothing you can do about it, so why worry?

Hog Island Boa Constrictor Imperator: Males get 4.5-5.5 feet females a bit longer (maybe like 6 feet I think).

you sound just like me
whats been said already doesn't need repeating
Blood or BCI sound about right, exactly what i have in mind myself to look for at the Daytona show
Bloods are kings of looking plump and stubby
there are more options depending on $, space and what you define as "too big"
i do wonder if theres ne one out there breeding the big pythons for a smaller size rather than larger
a mini-burm sounds like something people would go for
with all the breeders obsessed with genetics there must be someone thinking "if only they were smaller" :?

There are definitely people breeding reticulated pythons to be smaller. They're known as "dwarf retics" and started as a natural variation. I don't know of any breeders trying to do the same with burms, though.

Hehe yeah but those dwarf retics can still exceed 15+ - Kara (KLG) had a post about the particulars on them - lemme dig for it. I know I really wanted one lol.

Smaller is a relative term, after all. I'd love to have a pocket burm, myself.
