could i warm up some water on the oven and let it thaw out on a low setting?
what is the reason for using one cup of hot water after the other?

OK, update time!
Because it's very easy to overheat them and end up with cooked (and therefore harder to digest) mouse, or squishy mouse guts all over the place, which you really don't want to see. If you have a tea warmer or something that will keep the water at a constant temp between 100 and 120F, you could use that instead.

You could use the stove and put the burner on warm if its on there. Just be sure to keep it in the ziploc bag.
Thanks,
Damien
