Lazy eater
Well Butters has turned into the most lazy eater I've ever had. Plenty of tongue flicking, visual tracking during the zombie dance, and everything else you'd expect. Just no strike and coil. But if I put the prey down, and pretend not to watch he'll come over eat after dragging it into one of his hides, caveman style. I guess some snakes are just like that.

I don't know if it really matters or not as long as he eats.
If it is a big concern you can always try tough love and skip one or two feeding sessions. That may jump start his primal instincts.
The previous owner of my Carpet Python would feed her chicken wings, legs, and thighs. As well as lay jumbo rats in the cage. Thus, no strike and coil either.
For ME, I use 24 inch hemostats and don't have to do much of a dance. I just want Lizzy to still be able to hunt.
May be silly, but I just want her to be as much as a natural "snake" as possible.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

That's kind of where I am too. He's a good eater, and perfectly fine when handled. It was more of just an observation than a complaint.

Re: Lazy eater
last night one of mine took her f/t meal and constricted it and never let go, several hours later she was still wrapped around it, the constriction had turned into a cuddle with no attempt to position her head for swallowing. it gave us some amusement but we put her in the dark and within minutes she had eaten it

That's funny Paul, and I thought my Boa was getting a bit weird staying coiled for 15-20 minutes.
