    When to change tanks sizes?

    Hi all!

So as I mentioned in a different post, I have two newly aquired ball pythons. They are both being housed in a 30 gallon tank but I plan on separating them any day. I have my eye on some real nices cages that I found. My only dilemma is that I'm unsure of which size to get. They have a 24x18x16 that I'm considering since both are still relatively young but they also have a 36x24x24 that I do eventually want to get for them once the reach full size. Should I wait to get the larger cages? Or should I just go ahead and get them and let them grow into it? At what size Should ball pythons be moved into their adult enclosure?
The larger of the two is about 2 feet while the smaller is a foot and a half. I plan on getting the larger cages regardless but I can't decide if I should wait Maybe a year or two for them to grow up some more. And the smaller tanks will get reused down the road since I plan on getting some other morphs down the road.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I think it's a personal choice really. Just keep in mind if you go for bigger you would need to clutter it up a bit, so the snake doesn't feel too exposed.
Another thing to keep in mind is providing the right temp gradient.

Hi, First I thought I would mention if you want to get more morphs later have you considered a rack set up with tubs. You could talk to some of the folks here that have a real good knowledge of this type housing (and search.) But maybe that would be something you would rather do down the road, or not at all. If so I would go ahead and buy the larger 36x24x24 size. The hide size is the most important thing anyway and they can grow pretty fast, ( I bought mine in april it was pretty small and is now a 414 gram snake.) and you can always cover the front and sides with colored paper (I did this at first, but later removed it) and when you put 2 hides, and a good sized water bowl and maybe some thing to climb on you might wonder if it will be big enough, (it should be). I like to leave a little space to wrap up if feeding in the enclosure anyway. I would then put the larger snake in the 40. This will really save you money in the long run. Because as your snakes grow you will really wish you had gotten the larger size. But like I say if you're going to add, you might wish you had went to the rack and tubs to save money and space in the long run.

Thank you! It's funny you mention getting a rack because I was just looking this morning at a rack system that a reptile store nearby builds. I'll most likely be getting one of those within the next month or two!
    Thank you again!

Your welcome, that sounds like a real handy store to have close by if your wanting to get more into the ball python ownership. Sounds like the way to go. They could help you out and would be glad too.
