My snake only swims in his water bowl!?

I've noticed that my snake will swim around in his water bowl, to under water and swim around.. Of course he cannot move much nor put his whole body in the water bowl and still swim around. Last night I tried letting him swim in the bathtub with about a half inch of water and he just sat there. Today I put about 2 inches maybe less of water in my bathtub and he absolutely freaked out and crawled out of the bathtub. Am I doing something wrong? What should I do?

What kind of snake is it?

I've never had a snake that enjoyed being in the water. In my experience they go in for a few of reasons. They have mites. They are trying to regulate their temperature. They are getting ready to shed and it isn't humid enough. Other than that I've never had one that enjoy taking laps around a bathtub, kiddie pool or anything else. And I've tried.

Most of them don't like swimming. It's stressful most of the time.

Going in his water bowl is usually three things in a vast majority of cases:

1. Mites
2. Temp control
3. Lack of other places he feels secure

Sometimes they do it for other reasons, but enjoying a nice swim is not usually one of them.
